Digital illustration with Procreate at the Ipswich Libraries Makerspace

Transform your creative ideas into artworks using Procreate.

What is Procreate?

Procreate is a digital art software for Apple devices and is used by anyone from beginners and amateur artists to industry professionals! You can use Procreate to draw, paint, sketch, write, animate, or just play around.

What can I use ProCreate for?

Using Procreate, anything within the 2D realm is possible, so long as you can imagine it! It an be used to make wall art, stickers, presentation images, animated videos, and more!

We have an instructional booklet available online and within the Makerspace if you want some tips and tricks.

What do I need to bring?

You only need to bring yourself, your library card and a USB if you wish to save your work. To use the iPads for Procreate you must be at least 10 years old and be a member of the library in order to loan the Apple Pencils.

Can I book the iPads to use ProCreate?

The iPads will be a permanent fixture within the Makerspace and wont be bookable.
You will need to loan out the Apple Pencils available within the Makerspace to be used for Procreate!

All you need is a library card to retrieve one of our Apple Pencils from the Makerspace Officer, they will allocate it to your account as a temporary loan and assist you with getting started.
These Apple Pencils are unable to be removed from the Makerspace.

How long can I use Procreate for?

The Apple Pencil’s have an allocation limit of 1 hour that can be used along with Procreate within the Makerspace. During this time you can play around, create an artwork, learn how to use it, or follow along with our self-led session with the session booklet provided in the Makerspace.

You may request additional time as long as its available on the day.

Can I export my project?

Yes, you can! There are a number of export options such as PNG for saving a completed image, or a preserved file format so you can keep working on it from a different device.

To export artworks from the Makerspace, the project will need to be saved onto your own USB or our friendly staff’s USB that can be be emailed to yourself from ouremail.

Can I import my own file?

Whilst Procreate supports importing numerous different file types, this is mostly unsupported in the Makerspace as the iPads are locked to Procreate. This means that external apps such as internet browsers and iCloud to retrieve files for importing cannot be accessed.

You may bring in your USB with an existing file and ask the Makerspace officer for some assistance in importing your design.
