About Friends
Friends of Ipswich Libraries (FOILS) is a group of enthusiastic library supporters who share a passion for libraries and literacy. The Friends group was formed in October 2001. Since that time FOILS has become an integral part of Ipswich Libraries.
The aims of FOILS include:
- Promoting and supporting Ipswich Libraries.
- Strengthening the library’s links with the local community.
- Assisting with special projects and events related to the library.
What Friends Do
In consultation with library staff, FOILS organise community-based events and initiatives that help promote Ipswich Libraries and enrich the cultural life of the community.
Some popular events include:
- Lunch in the Library
- Trivia with Friends
- Fundraising Theatre Nights
- Slice of Life
Funds raised through these low-cost events contribute to key library projects and activities such as:
Books for Babies – Thanks to this FOILS initiative started in 2007, babies born at local hospitals are welcomed with a special gift pack promoting reading to children from birth. FOILS volunteers regularly pack kits for distribution to project partners, Ipswich General Hospital and St Andrew’s Private Hospital Ipswich.
Baby Rhyme Time – Friends are a valuable partner in this Ipswich Libraries program, funding picture story books for literacy packs and presenting these to families at final graduation sessions.
Benefits of Becoming a Friend
Becoming a member of FOILS is a great way to support Ipswich Libraries and meet new friends. As a member, you will also be kept informed about current activities and events.
How do I become a Friend?
Membership is open to everyone over the age of 18. Join at any time throughout the year. Fees are renewed annually in January.
Individual membership is $5.00.
Family and Corporate membership is also available.
To join, simply complete the FOILS Membership Application Form. Visit any branch of Ipswich Libraries to make payment.
Meetings
Friends of Ipswich Libraries general meetings are held monthly (excluding December).
Time: 4.30 pm
When: 4th Wednesday of each month
Where: Ipswich Central Library
Friends of Ipswich Libraries welcomes new members. Get actively involved in meetings and projects or show your support through attending events.
