George Brockwell Gill lived and worked in Ipswich for 55 years. He retired in 1943 and went to live in Coolangatta in a house he built and designed. But Mr Brockwell Gill left a lasting impression on the cityscape of Ipswich.
A lot of the beautiful buildings in Ipswich were designed by George Brockwell Gill, including:
- Flour Mill
- Ipswich Girls’ Grammar
- Brynhyfryd
- Congregational Sunday School
- Cribb & Foote’s stores Bell street extension
- City View Hotel
- Ipswich Technical College
- RSL Memorial Hall
- Part of the Ipswich Hospital buildings
- Walter Burley Griffin Reverbatory Incinerator
In the Viva Cribb History room, we hold copies of a number of his architectural plans for buildings he designed for Ipswich.
