New additions to the Local History Room collection

The collection in the Viva Cribb Local History Resource Room has recently increased with the addition of a number of books about different aspects of Ipswich’s history.

The authors of In heavenly garb : the headstones of the Ipswich General Cemetery examine the city’s past through the symbols on the headstones at the Ipswich General Cemetery. Along with an insight into the culture and death of the city’s ancestors, Christopher Dawson and Tracey Olivieri also provide a history of the cemetery since 1842. The publication of this book was made possible with the assistance of the Ipswich City Council’s Viva Cribb Bursary Program.

In the book Burning brightly : an update of ‘Rising from the ashes’ : a history of Ipswich Little Theatre, 1996-2009, Helen Pullar has included a wealth of information about the Ipswich Little Theatre since 1996 including the plays performed, life members and major players, backstage and front of house crews and tributes to past members. The earlier history of the Ipswich Little Theatre is covered in the book, Rising from the ashes : a jubilee history of Ipswich Little Theatre 1946-1996 by Margaret Pullar (Cook).

A century of black and blue 1912-2012: the 100 year history of the Goodna & Districts Rugby League Football Club is a book by Lyle F. Reed which he dedicated to “all the past and present people who, in the last century supported the game of Rugby League in our district.” In his book, Lyle provides a brief history of the Goodna district and then covers the ups and downs of the Goodna & Districts Rugby League Football Club from its debut in 1912 to the present day.
