In recent months the Ipswich Libraries has added several books to the Local History collection on topics ranging from World War One Soliders to the history of the Ripley Valley.

In her book, In the Shadow of Mount Flinders : Stories of Ripley Valley , Pamela Lamb provides an overview of the Ripley Valley history since white settlement in 1842.  Within this book she details the “lives of people long gone who left behind intriguing stories just waiting to be discovered.”

Compiled by the Harrisville and District Society Inc., World War One Soldiers of the Normanby Shire is a publication which details the lives and experiences of the soldiers listed on the Honour Boards of the Harrisville School of Arts, Harrisville Uniting Church and Peak Crossing Public Hall.  The Ipswich Libraries has other books by the Society, including A Short History of the Fassifern Railway and A Brief History of the Fassifern Railway.

The Main Line : A Brief History of the Line from Ipswich to Grandchester and on to Toowoomba, is the latest book by Greg Cash about railways in Ipswich and the surrounding area.  His previous publications include – The Marburg Branch : A Brief History of a 20th Century Branch Line and Other Lines of the Walloon Coalfields and Rosewood Railway Museum : The Remaking of a Railway. This latest publication, published in 2015, coincides with 150 years of rail in Queensland.

In his most recent publication, Salute the Brave and Carve Their Names With Pride, well-known local military historian Edwin Habben provides a Roll of Honour to the brave men from the eastern suburbs of Ipswich who sacrificed their lives for their country during the 20th century.  Ipswich Libraries has other books by this author, the details of which can be found here.
