A beautiful coffee table book has been launched, called “The Whitehead Legacy”. The Whitehead family have lived and worked as photographers in Ipswich since 1883. The book contains photographs covering people, streetscapes, buildings, transport, historic buildings and industry. In short a beautiful trip through the history of Ipswich, starting in the 1800s.
The book came about as a result of the donation of 6000 glass negatives, negatives and photographs to the Ipswich City Council by the Whitehead Family. As part of the Ipswich 150 Celebrations, the collection of images is being digitised by the Ipswich Library & Information Service for display on Picture Ipswich.
