What does a membership with Ipswich Libraries offer?
Membership is free and allows you access to a wide range of resources, programs and spaces.
You can place a reservation in the online catalogue and use our digital services, including downloading e-books, audiobooks and entertainment. Memberships also provide access to free online learning, study assistance and our members-only databases. Library members can book a computer or a meeting room.
You can join online however upgrading to full membership allows you to borrow physical items from any Ipswich Libraries service point, including 24/7 SmartLockers.
Other membership types include Temporary (12 weeks), Youth in Care and Corporate.
All residents of Queensland are eligible for memberships with Ipswich Libraries
How do I join the library?
You can join online or at any branch of Ipswich Libraries.
Are you under 18? If so, you will need your parent guardian to complete the details on the form. An option for Corporate Membership exists for schools, institutions and community organisations in the Ipswich region. Download a copy of the Corporate Membership Form.
Library membership requires you to read and agree to Ipswich Libraries Conditions of Entry and comply with the Terms & Conditions of Membership information as listed on the Ipswich Libraries website.
Visit your preferred branch, present proof of your name and current address, collect your membership card and enjoy full and free library membership.
How many items can I borrow?
You can have a maximum of 20 items on your library card.
How long can I borrow library items?
Magazines, DVD’s and Top 20 Marketplace items are available for (2) two weeks. All other items are available for (4) four weeks.
What if my items are overdue?
Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy reminder for your convenience. Please return or renew items if you receive a reminder.
Charges may be incurred for damaged or lost materials.
Library privileges, including borrowing, will be suspended for customers who owe fees in excess of $10.00.
Will I receive a notice if I have overdue items
You will receive a notice via the preferred method you have selected when joining the library. If you did NOT receive a notice, please advise Ipswich Libraries as soon as possible.
- Due Date: Overdue notice is sent
- Two (2) weeks overdue: Final notice is sent. If the items are not returned within one (1) week of this notice, the items will be declared as lost.
- Three (3) weeks overdue: A Tax Invoice is generated. This notice will indicate the amount payable including the original cost of the item.
How can I keep track of my library loans?
You can monitor your account through your online dashboard. Click Login on the library website or the Ipswich Libraries app.
To download the Ipswich Libraries app:
A receipt can be printed when borrowing that lists your loans plus the date due.
You are able to receive loan reminder alerts via email of SMS.
What if I lost my library card?
You are responsible for all items borrowed on your library card. Please keep your card safe and secure. Report a lost card as soon as possible so it can be deactivated.
Please visit your preferred branch with current identification to receive a replacement card.
Your membership card can be stored in an eWallet or, alternatively, you can use your membership barcode from the Ipswich Libraries app.
How do I renew items?
Items will automatically renew for two (2) weeks if they have not been requested by another customer. Items will renew three (3) days before the due date.
Alternatively, you can renew items at any library branch, online through your Dashboard or through the Ipswich Libraries app.
Renewal Periods:
- DVDs and Marketplace Top 20 – one (1) week
- Other items – two (2) weeks (conditions may apply)
At the discretion of the Manager, Libraries and Customer Services, lending conditions may be temporarily modified to reflect community or operations requirements.
How do I reserve an item?
Members can reserve library items online via the catalogue on the website or app, by contacting Ipswich Libraries or by visiting an Ipswich Libraries branch.
Members may have a maximum of 20 reservations at any one time.
What if the library doesn’t have the title I’m looking for?
Customers may make requests for the purchase of items not held in the collection. Use the Suggest a Purchase form to let us know the details and it can be considered for purchase for our collection.
Where a decision is made not to purchase the item, the requestor will be advised and where possible offered an Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
All requests for purchase are assessed against the Library’s Collection Statement.
You can also use this form to request an Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Please read the Interlibrary Loan Guidelines before placing an ILL request.
How do I access My Account?
Visit the library website and login by entering your membership number (number beginning with X on the back of your membership card) and password in the login form.
Click on ‘My Account’ under your name on the top right side of the screen
Your password can be reset by clicking on ‘Forgot your password?’ link, entering your details as requested on the screen. Your borrow account must have an email address
If this is not successful or your email is not connected to your account, visit your preferred branch of Ipswich Libraries and present your ID to reset your username and password.
