Tales and Trails is an outdoor self guided reading experience designed to encourage literacy, learning and discovery for families exploring Ipswich City Council parks and locations of interest. Each Trail showcases Stories for Little Queenslanders, a series of 12 children’s picture books created exclusively for First 5 Forever by 21 authors and illustrators with a connection to Queensland and published by the State Library of Queensland and funded by the Queensland Government. Each Trail features a title in the series, with pages beautifully reproduced on large metal signs and spread along the nature walking trail, with the inclusion of braille for increased accessibility.
Tales and Trails highlights Ipswich Libraries strong connection to the community with each trail incorporating outdoor learning and activities related to the book theme or location. This initiative was developed by Ipswich libraries and supported by multiple partners including Australian Geographic, Kids Alive, Mission Australia, Play Matters, Scouts Queensland, The Workshops Rail Museum, Nature Play, Ipswich Koala Protection Society, Raising Children Network, Ipswich Nature Centre and Ipswich City Council.
