The Ipswich Libraries self-service Pod is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Located outside Coles in the Karalee Shopping Village, Junction Rd Karalee.
Using your library card, you can browse, borrow and return books, as well as reserve books online and collect them at your convenience. The Library Pod offers a curated collection of multiple copies of our most popular and trending books, in beautiful, easy to use, self-serve cabinets.
Ipswich Libraries Pod was a first for Public Libraries in Australia. We are proud to continue to provide innovative solutions in delivering high quality Library services for the Ipswich City community.

How it works
Before you borrow
You’ll need an Ipswich Libraries membership to borrow items from the Karalee Library Pod.
Not a member? Join online and start borrowing straight away with a digital membership card via the Library app.
Standard Ipswich Libraries membership terms and conditions apply.
Borrow items
- Scan your library membership card or open your digital card in the Ipswich Libraries app.
- The cabinet door will open.
- Select the items you would like to borrow.
- Press the green button to close the door.
- Your items will be automatically checked out to your account.
- If you have chosen to receive receipts by SMS or email, a receipt will be sent to you
Return items
- Return items via the returns chute located on the Coles side of the Pod.
- Please allow 1 to 2 business days for returned items to be removed from your account.
Collect reservations
Reserve items through the library catalogue and choose Karalee Library Pod as your pickup location
When your item arrives:
- It will be labelled with your name
- You will receive an email or SMS when it is available for pickup
- It will be available for collection for 5 days
What’s in the Pod?
New titles are added regularly. The collection focuses on:
- Popular adult fiction and non-fiction
- Bestsellers and trending titles
- Selected young adult titles
- Selected children’s titles
- General audience and family DVDs
Loan information
- You can borrow up to 20 items at a time.
- Items are loaned for 4 weeks.
- Eligible items can be renewed for an extra 2 weeks.
- Digital receipts are available in your library account and the Ipswich Libraries app.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I reserve items that are already in the Karalee Library Pod?
- No. items currently held in the Karalee Library Pod cannot be reserved.
Can I choose the Karalee Library Pod as my pickup location?
- Yes. You can reserve items from other Ipswich Libraries locations and collect them from the Karalee Library Pod.
Can I return items borrowed from another library branch?
- Yes. Any Ipswich Libraries item can be returned through the Karalee Pod return chute.
What if my reserved item isn’t there?
- If you have received a pickup notice but cannot find your reserved item, please contact Ipswich Libraries on 07 3810 6815 for assistance.
What if I leave my card, wallet, or phone in the Pod?
- Select ‘Start’ on the cabinet
- Type in your library card number
- The door will open so you can retrieve the item
- Otherwise, please contact Ipswich Libraries on 07 3810 6815 to report the issue
